John & Dorthea - 2003

George printed the photo for me, because I am not up to Greg,s profiency with blogs and photo formats.
The picture was taken seven years after my retirement and two years before our 50th wedding anniversary in October 2005.
Our six children were present for our anniversary, and their current situations are as follows:
  • Tom and wife Dawn live in Bumpas, Virginia where Tom works for IBM and Dawn cares for a variety of domestic and farm animals on their 15 acre farm.
  • Jim and wife, Kathy, and son, John, live in Watertown, NY where Jim works for a communication company, Kathy runs the local Cornell extension office.  John(21) attends the NYS Maritime college.
  • Joan and husband, Dave, and son, Victor(9), live in Amherst, NY. Joan, after a stint in the fashion industry, became a social worker and works at the local VA Hospital, and Dave works for the William Hein Publishing Co.
  • Peter and wife, Kelly, and children, Eva(6) and Christian(4), live in San Mateo, CA where Peter ia a finance director at CISCO and Kelly is a full time mother.
  • Mary and husband, Bob, and son, Jack(12), live in Shelton, CN where Mary, a nurse, works for Boston Scientific and Bob works for the Greenich Medical Group.
  • Maria and husband Keith lived in Luxembourg for five years and currently live outside Chicago with sons, Peter(11( and Sean(10).  Maria teaches ballet and exercise classes at local hospital's health club and Keith works for US Stationers, Inc.
At our 50th wedding anniversary, Dorothea was already showing pronounced symptoms of dementia.  I cared for her on Huntington Ave. as long as I could, but she eventually was moved to Schofield skilled nursing residence in Tonawanda where she presenrly resides.  I sold the Huntington Ave. house last September and currently live in an apartment in Amherst.
Prior to my retirement, Dorothea and I took two great trips to europe, one to our homelands in Germany, Austria and Slovakia, and one to Italy.  After my retirement thanks to Maria and Keith, we took a few trips to Luxembourg and surrounding countries.
